Transfer to Auckland Airport for your Air New Zealand flight direct to Cairns departing at 7.05 am. Arrive in Cairns at 10.45 am. Visit the Botanic Gardens and then transfer to Novotel Cairns Oasis Hotel for the next 5 nights. Afternoon is free then a visit to Cairns Aquarium including a Welcome Dinner.
SUN 25 AUG – CAIRNS/ATHERTON TABLELANDS B,L,D
This morning depart on a panoramic tour to the Atherton Tablelands. Travel to the town of Atherton via the Kuranda Range Road for free time and lunch at Yungaburra. Continue to Lake Barrine for a look around and visit the incredible Curtain Fig Tree. Return to Cairns via Palmerston Highway. Dinner is included tonight at the Hotel.
MON 26 AUG – CAIRNS FREE DAY B
A free day to relax at the hotel with its sandy lagoon-style pool, boasting the only swim-up bar in Cairns - or shop/sightsee. Freedom dining tonight.
TUE 27 AUG – CAIRNS/KURANDA TOUR & TRAIN SKYRAIL, RAINFORESTATION & BUTTERFLY SANCTUARY B,L,D
After breakfast transfer to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to Kuranda. Enjoy a 7.5-kilometre scenic cable car ride with magnificent views above the Rainforest Canopy. Free time in Kuranda. Visit the Koala Wildlife Sanctuary. Enjoy a delicious lunch followed by the dream-time walk and Pamagirri Dance Theatre, plus a guided tour of the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. Transfer to the Kuranda Railway Station and depart by Kuranda Scenic Railway, travelling through fifteen tunnels via Stoney Creek and Barron Falls to Cairns. Dinner included.
WED 28 AUG – CAIRNS/FITZROY ISLAND B,L,D
Depart Cairns mid-morning to this incredible island that is largely untouched. It's where a lush protected rainforest meets the colourful Great Barrier Reef. Board the 45-minute fast ferry to Fitzroy Island paradise. Enjoy a glass-botto boat tour. Lunch is included. Depart Fitzroy Island and transfer back to the hotel. Dinner at the RSL Club tonight.
THU 29 AUG – CAIRNS/PORT DOUGLAS VIA HARTLEY’S CROCODILE ADVENTURES B,D
Travel to Port Douglas via scenic Captain Cook Highway and Trinity Beaches. Visit Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures Palm Cove en route. Enjoy a farm tour, lagoon boat cruise and crocodile & cassowary feeding. Time for an early casual lunch (own expense) before continuing to Port Douglas where you will stay for the next five nights. Sail to the Low Isles in the Great Barrier Reef lagoon aboard Wavedancer luxury sailing Catamaran. View spectacular coral formations and magnificent reef fish from the glass bottom boat. For the more adventurous join an optional snorkel expedition or a beach walk with a Marine Biologist. Lunch is included. Return to Port Douglas and transfer to Oaks Resort. Today travel to the Daintree National Park Wet Tropics World Heritage area and wilderness region. Begin with a guided tour of Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas and observe a huge range of flora and fauna up close. Visit Cape Tribulation Beach and enjoy a tropical lunch followed by a guided rainforest walk and Daintree River cruise. Afternoon tea is served, then cross the Daintree River on cable driven ferry and return to Port Douglas. Enjoy dinner tonight at Oaks Resort.
